Somewhere between sharing the glory of our present day musical gladiators and the first time you plugged in your new electric guitar, there’s a middle ground where dreams and reality meet at the crossroads. It’s a place between the worry and the glory. That space between “Never heard of you!” and “May I have your autograph?” It’s a non geographical / musical location that you’re happy playing in, as long as you are constantly moving forward. But your direction is clear because there’s your bands flyer up ahead that reads NEXT STOP!...

BY J.L. JOHNSTON This is a very special column for us here at STCROIXMUSIC.COM. It’s where you’ll get to meet bands from all over the world and hear what they have to say through their gift of music. I’ve been going on line almost every day for about three years now listening to, keeping track of, and reviewing bands from every corner of our wonderful planet earth. The artists that we choose to feature represent the best in fresh new musical talent worldwide. We intend to cover all the genres of music as long as it’s interesting, performed well and original. So get ready for three new artists each month! Please feel free to download each bands music and bio. Also, if there is a band that you like, visit them on their websites and tell them how much you enjoyed their music. If you don’t like the music that is being played on your local radio station, send them an e mail with an MP3 of one of our featured bands, and tell them to play it. I got a feeling deep inside that if enough of us made that effort, then we, the listeners, can control the future of music in the media.

Many people don’t realize that much of the music that they listen to finds its roots in Irish - Celtic music. Artist like U2, The Dixie Chicks, Joni Mitchell, and even progressive bands like Bela Fleck and the Flecktones and Gentle Giant have all been influenced by this very old and much respected style of music. But only a few artists are dedicated to preserving it in its original acoustical format while at the same time mixing traditional songs with new compositions. And the band that we are featuring in this article does just that. A band based out of Switzerland called “The Bow Triplets”. With the heartiness of an authentic Irish pub band, and the intonation and technical precision of a symphony orchestra, the Bow Triplets present a sound that has familiar warmth combined with an intellectual stature that creates the recipe for an incredible listening experience. And their newest release “Fair Play to You” is yet another demonstration of their ability to prepare a feast of Celtic authenticity composed to please your musical taste buds. Featuring Brendan Wade from Ireland, Stef Sigfalk from Sweden, Heidi Sigfalk from Germany, Andreas Aeppli from Switzerland and guest musician Joe Eisenburger from Germany, they have a sound that’s worthy of an appearance at Carnegie Hall and all the respect that goes with it. We here at SCM are pushing out our chest with pride to be able to present this wonderful group of musicians to you! This band in combination with all our other featured bands represent the level of quality and international awareness that we try to stay focused on. And a band like The Bow Triplets helps us set and preserve the standards that other bands have to reach to be featured in one of our articles. So please feel free to download this song from them called “The Lighting fields”, and don’t forget to visit them via their link in our “Bands” column. This wonderful song that they are offering you is only a blossom stemming from their long and musical Celtic roots. Enjoy. – JJ Download: “The Lighting Fields” by The Bow Triplets March, 2007
